Thankful for her influence

I was on the phone with my mother catching up like we always do as I told her about some exciting things happening with my nonprofit. She took a long pause, got emotional (I told you I was my mother’s child). She said, “You are doing such world-changing, important work. I might not say enough but I’m so proud of you”

I said, mom, no, thank you! You taught and raised me well. My mom is the pioneer in the family. She is a woman of faith. She is truly the glue that holds it all together.

Our relationship wasn’t always this way. Growing up as an only girl I always felt the pressure to be “good”. I was a rebel. I always wanted my mom to respect me for the person I am not the idea of the person she wanted me to be. It took us a while to get here, but I’m so happy for our growing relationship.

Mom, I’m so proud to be your child. You’ve taught me so much about love, how to give it, share it, welcome it, and most importantly feel the world. You have an incredible inspiration and influence in my life. You are the true definition of a loving, hardworking, and encouraging mother, and I’m thankful for your influence as I continue to grow.

Happy Birthday Mom, I love you forever!
